Really nice pictures, Nadezda! Winter is tough on these Maples here as well. I was heartbroken last year to lose one that I had nurtured for a several years. Its death was mysterious as that winter was no more harsh than any other. I have three Maples at the moment and love the hint of burgundy they add to the garden.
Jennifer, you understand me well! I had nurtured my maple, too. Every October I cover it in special cloth, bend it to the ground, and the maple spends the winter under a layer of snow.
Beautiful leaves! I love Japanese maples too. Not all are winter-hardy enough to survive where I live, but I want to try growing one of the tougher ones. It is worth working extra hard to take care of these beauties!

ReplyDeleteSpruge, you're right! I had a lot of efforts to maple survived the winter, but it's enough hardy, -24C (-1F).
