Although snow isn't melting, snowstorm is sometimes, and again it seems that the spring won't come soon.
That's what I saw when I came in my garden yesterday. I've found a poem about plants waiting for spring under the snow.
Here it is:
WAITING TO GROW
Little
white snowdrop just waking up,
Violet, daisy, and sweet buttercup,
Think of the flowers that are under the snow,
Waiting to grow!
Violet, daisy, and sweet buttercup,
Think of the flowers that are under the snow,
Waiting to grow!
And
think what a number of queer little seeds,
Of flowers and mosses, of ferns and of weeds,
Are under the leaves and under the snow,
Waiting to grow!
Of flowers and mosses, of ferns and of weeds,
Are under the leaves and under the snow,
Waiting to grow!
Think
of the roots getting ready to sprout,
Reaching their slender brown fingers about,
Under the ice and the leaves and the snow,
Waiting to grow!
Reaching their slender brown fingers about,
Under the ice and the leaves and the snow,
Waiting to grow!
the poem by Frank French
All
right! Then I took a shovel in my hands and I began to clean the
paths under the nice bright sky.
Hi Nadezda
ReplyDelete"Waiting" is such a difficult word for gardeners - we are an impatient lot :)
Astrid, our northern cold climate learns us to be patient, ha, ha! I will sow seeds, buy some perennials and store them at home. So until April to move all plants to my summer house. Thank you!
DeleteIt was a joy to read this poem illustrated with beautiful pictures of snow.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Janneke!
DeleteWhat a nice and hopeful poem for such a cold and snowy day! Beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, outlaw!
DeleteYour weather seems the same as ours Nadezda. Now that I'm seeing everyone's spring flowers on their blogs I am not in the mood for any more new snow :( Sweet poem, it is perfect for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteRosemary, the weather is strange. It was -18 C two days ago, and then about 0 C. The snow gets very heavy and watery. Thank you!
DeleteDear Nadezda, very beautiful poem!Amazing photos of the snow!Your hyacinths look great!Mine bloomed already!Hope you have a lovely and warm weekend!Thank you for your comment on my blog!Take care!
ReplyDeleteDimi..
Dimi, send me some warmth, please! Your hyacinths bloomed very nice. Thank you!
DeleteThe landscape looks much the same here. I agree with Astrid. Waiting for spring is a tough thing for impatient gardeners.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I wish you have the warm weather on weekend, thank you!
DeleteHallo Nadzda eventhough I am longing so much to welcome spring I must say the snow in combination with clear blue sky's are also one of favorite's. A beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful evening.
Thank you, Marijke!
DeleteHello Nadezda girl !
ReplyDeleteThese are such pretty pictures and I too have "foot prints" of little creatures in the back garden .. we have a bunny or bunnies .. along with visiting cats, birds (not at the same time hopefully!)
The sun is shining on the snow making it look pretty : )
Such a nice poem meant for a gardener's heart indeed !
Joy : )
Joy, yes,it is! Lots of small animals survive in cold winter and all need to feed them. Thank you!
DeleteSuch a lovely poem and beautiful pictures, Nadezda!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Satu!
DeleteHi Nadezda, I enjoyed the photos and the poem. Did you know that in English "privet" is a kind of shrub?
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't! What is this shrub? It's strange to name the plant 'Hello!', isn't it? Thank you, Jason!
DeleteI love hyacinths, the scent is just so sweet. Not long now before mine are flowering in the garden, I wish I could melt away your snow so your spring flowers could emerge for you too, just a bit longer to wait now :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, Helene, you're so kind! I'm sure spring will come here, early or lately.Thank you!
DeleteI bet those hyacinths smell good. They are lovely. Yes, spring is coming! The days are getting longer.
ReplyDeleteYou aren't wrong: the hyacinths' scent fills all around.Thank you, sweetbay!
DeleteBeautiful images / collages showing. Can see that you have a lot of snow. Wishing you a good Friday / good weekend :) Hugs Hanne Bente
ReplyDeleteThank you,Hanne Bente!
DeleteI always think of what is sleeping and resting and waiting under the blank sheet of snow all winter. I love your pictures of flat white snow, with so much waiting underneath it all! I can't wait to see what is under our snow here --- soon!
ReplyDeleteLaurrie,oh, how I understand you! When I saw that flat white snow I thought about my lawn, how it survived in this winter. Thank you!
DeleteWelcome Nadezda!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and great pictures.
Hyacinths in winter is a great joy for us.
Nadezda, I see in you is a beautiful blue sky.
Have a nice weekend.
Lucia
Lucia, the blue sky is rare guest in this winter here! Thank you!
DeleteI love all your snow. :o) Everyday I'm grateful for that extra minute of sun. Having little seedlings in my "greenhouse" is helping me pass the rest of winter. :o)
ReplyDeleteTammy, I repaired all for my seedlings too! May the winter will pass faster. Thank you!
DeleteHi Nadezda, I so much like the poetry on your posts and the photos of these hyacinths is lovely, thanks so much for visiting my new blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked this poem, it reflects my thoughts when I'm in my garden. Thank you, Karen!
DeleteThank you, Sharon, for dropping by!
ReplyDeleteDear Nadezda,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. I like that poem - I am going to copy it out for the children at school tomorrow!
Your photographs are as always lovely. I like the dark blue hyacinths. We had some growing in doors but the scent was nearly overpowering!
Your snow makes our snow look like a mere dusting of sugar. I hope you had a nice cup of tea or coffee after digging all that snow!
Kirk
This poem by Frank French was written a century ago, I liked it at once. I hope the children at school will like it as well. How did you guess about a big cup of tea with big sandwich? It was good lunch after good work :)), thank you, Kirk!
DeleteOh, so nice pictures and that bright blue sky! Our skies are dark grey - light grey, every day.
ReplyDeleteThey told us, this is the darkes winter for years! Yes, we haven't had any sunshine ....
Meggie
Meggie, this blue sky is not often here too. Mostly clouds, light frost. Today we have +2C! I guess spring is coming early or late. I hope you won your blood pressure. Take care and thank you!

ReplyDeleteΙ am sure that you will not wait for a long time ! Spring is near !
Have a lovely week !
Thank you, Olimpia!
DeleteHi Nadezda! I like the light/shade pictures... We didn't have any snow this winter except for a light snow on Christmas which melted fast. Answering your question on my blog, I mostly use Windows Live photo gallery when work with pictures. Sorry, I'm late with my reply. All the best
ReplyDeleteTatyana, the snow hasn't melted here and I guess it won't be soon. I'll try to download this program on my DELL, but am not sure it works because I have Linux installed. Thank you!
DeleteThank you for stopping by, Jeeh!
