An
eastern part of the Baltic Sea is called the Gulf of Finland. The
Neva River is very full flowing and connects the deep Ladoga lake and
the Gulf of Finland. The huge mass of water gets there.
There are some photos of the Gulf in my archive made in winter and spring. In winter, I walked in the ice and photographed fishermen sitting and waiting for fish (here). It was very cold, but ice fishing enthusiasts were not afraid of frost.

Saint Petersburg is located on the banks of the Neva River and on the shores of the Gulf of Finland. In spring sun warmed hard and ice began to melt fast, the blocks of ice slowly swam into the Baltic Sea.
The sand on the beach dried up and the water became clear and transparent. Buds appeared on the coastal willow trees. But the snow still stayed between the pine trees and on the sand.
On summer weekends many holiday makers come to the Gulf beaches to swim and sunbathe. Screams, laughter, music was constantly heard, they played with ball, children built castles in the sand. I love to relax on the yellow sandy shores too.
Yesterday I met some people strolling along the beach, because the water has already cooled off for swimming.
Where do you drive to relax and
bathe in a hot day?
Is there any bay, lake, sea (not swimming pool!) near your home?

Thank you!
What a beautiful place to go for a walk, relax and enjoy. So different but always beautiful in every season. Great to see all these pictures of a year round in one post.

Thank you, Marian!
DeleteThe Baltic is really rather beautiful; it is a shame that I have never been there, not even when I lived in Germany. Perhaps I will have to visit.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will have a lovely holiday on your hot island and that you will e able to do a lot of swimming in warm waters.
I do hope as well! Thank you, Friko!
DeleteDifficult to imagine the snow at the moment. It is a very beautiful area, no matter what the weather.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tracey, you're right! I don't want to think about the snow and ice.
DeleteThank you!
Great pictures of the sea in different seasons. I like it even more with snow and ice than in summer when there are on hot days lots of people on the beach.
ReplyDeleteWhen we go to the sea we go to the Northsea, the sea between England and The Netherlands. That is for us only half an hour driving. I used to go rather often when children were still at home, but nowadays we prefer in summer our garden above the madding crowd on the beach. Nevertheless on quiet days we love to make a walk on the beach overlooking the sea.
Nadezda, have a very nice holidays!
I've been floating on a ferry on the North sea but don't remember the shores. Are they sandy, Janneke?
DeleteThank you, I do hope my holidays will be nice.

Thank you very much, Dimi!
DeleteI would never get bored if I lived by the sea, but going on holiday at different times of year is nice too. Lovely photographs!
ReplyDeleteIt's true, Jenny, the sea is nice in all seasons (except winter!). Thank you!
DeleteI've enjoyed seeing these photos... I've always been curious about Finland as I had a student who lives there... unfortunately, we've lost touch... hope you're having a great vacation... I'm not sure what country these were taken in? Larry
ReplyDeleteLarry, these pictures were taken in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Both countries Finland and Russia are on the shores of this Gulf. Thank you!
DeleteThere is something beautiful and soothing about a beach and the sea. We are lucky to be close to the ocean, it's about 45 minutes away from where I live, and we often drive to the beach and put our toes in the Atlantic. Have a relaxing holiday!
ReplyDeleteReally, you're lucky to live not far from Atlantic. I love to look at the sea as well.
DeleteThank you, Laurrie!
Wow the frozen sea photos are amazing! Sounds like paradise in summer. Hope you have a brilliant time :)
ReplyDeleteThe frozen sea is very cold, Anna! Thank you, I do hope!
DeleteWAU - where some beautiful pictures you show. Wish you a good Tuesday :) Hugs Hanne Bente
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hanne Bente!
DeleteBeautiful photos, Nadezda! I love seeing the sea through the seasons--it's hard to believe the haven for ice fishermen becomes a playground for beachgoers in the summer. I live in the middle of the U.S., surrounded by cornfields. I have to drive for three hours to see anything more than a small lake!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked my photos of ice and summer beaches. Thank you, Rose!
DeleteWelcome Nadezda!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures. Water and sky are beautiful blue color.
Brrrr, do not miss the winter or rainy autumn.
I love spring and summer.
Greetings.
Lucia

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful vacation - enjoy the sun and heat!
Thank you, Astrid! I will!
DeleteGreat post, Nadezda! Of course, I remember the previous post that fishermen were sitting on ice, which struck me by surprise. So, it's hard to believe the change of scenery depending of the season. I enjoyed your post with your explanation looking at Google Map. Saint Petersburg is a beautiful city! Love to visit there someday:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were looking at Google map, you could see the huge city in the Neva delta and the Gulf of Finland. I hope you visit my city one day! Thank you, Keity!
DeleteI'm really fascinated with the ice crystals in the ice cliff. What a sight!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elsie!
DeleteWhat a beautiful part of the world you live in. :o) I love all that ice.
