Thalictrum is unusual perennial with fragrant flowers, without petals. It has straight stems up to 2 m tall, delicate leaves are shiny on the upper side. The flowers are small, numerous, gathered in paniculate inflorescence. Immediately after the buds are opened, its petals fall off and numerous stamens remain.
Meadow rue is decorative, unpretentious and well tolerated northern climate. It grows well in the sun, in little shading and even under the trees.
This plant is thriving even on infertile areas, only it needs enough moisture. Thalictrum grows especially lush, with large, bright buds on fertile, nutrient-rich soils, is winter-hardy and does not require any special care.
Do you grow Meadow rue in your garden or would you love to? Thank you!
Oh, what beautiful fowers ! Nadezda, your garden is a floral paradise !
ReplyDeleteGreat photos !
Greetings :)
Thank you Ela!
DeleteThey are beautiful Nadezda. I started some from seed which should bloom next year or the following year. The ones I am growing are a bit different (rochebrunianum). We have a native one growing in the woods here (Thalictrum dasycarpum) but it is not as attractive.
ReplyDeleteThalictrum rochebrunianum is nice too Alain! It has petal that are more than my Thalictrum aquilegifolium has.
DeleteThank you!
Wow...so beautiful! I have never seen this plant before. Both of the color and shape are so beautiful. Interesting that this plant grow as perennial. So each year you can enjoy the beauty. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes Endah, it's perennial plant and it has seeds now. So I will have more meadow rue next year!
DeleteYour Thalictrum pictures are so beautiful Nadezda. Yours are the Thalictrum aquilegifolium I think, for mine are a bit different. I have the Thalictrum flavum and the Thalictrum rochebrunianum.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Janneke: mine is Thalictrum aquilegifolium! I think your Thalictrum flavum has yellow flowers and Thalictrum rochebrunianum is pink. Am I right? But they both are pretty!

ReplyDeleteI too love thalictrim and have a hugely tall one growing one the long side of my garden "splendide" is the sub name I think.. I have another one on the opposite side and a sweet little one called Evening Star ... I can't wait to see blooms on the big one though !
Your pictures are wonderful ... sometimes it is very difficult to get good pictures .. but you cracked it !
Joy : )
Hi Joy!
DeleteGlad you liked my pictures, it was very important illumination when I took photos, because the flower is thin and transparent. Thank you!
I also love and grow this wonderful plant. It's so cheerful and gives the flower beds such an airy feeling!
ReplyDeleteDear Nadezda,
ReplyDeleteI just found your garden blog! I recently bought a Thalictrum for my garden, so your post was perfect to get to inform about her.
I am from Germany by the way. I find it so amazing that blogging makes it possible to have a look into other gardens from all over the world and meet their owners.
In your city is still spring and in my German garden the roses start to blossom. Would be nice if you would come by!
See you soon
Sigrid
