Mosaic for Monday - A Fair

I've recently been to the town of Lahti in Finland. On Wednesday morning, the fair was held and I was happy to see what people sell there.
Despite the rainy weather, buyers and sellers were many. At first I went to see the seedlings of flowers and vegetables. I was surprised by hanging baskets with tomatoes: some fruits were already hanging on.

Sure, colorful petunias, viola, tagetes, Impatiens and other flowers can brighten any garden.
Nearby I've seen bunches of lilies of the valley, the aroma was so strong that it was impossible to pass by without noticing them.

Further along the stands I've seen beautiful embroideries on cotton tablecloths. You probably know that I love embroidering therefore I looked carefully at them and especially liked the embroidery with Dicentra  (Bleeding heart).

Opposite of flowers stall a cheerful elderly lady was selling honey from her own apiary. I've tried - very tasty and odorous honey. Not far from honey stall I loved colorful socks that another lady in pink was selling.
On the other side of a long table people were selling brooms those reminded me a witch's broom that she used flying in the sky :)).

There also was a stall with different wooden cutlery. These were wooden spoons and knives, spoons for honey, handles, chairs, brushes, something more don't know what for are.

There were sold natural bristle brushes for utensils, shoes, barrels... and body,  many useful things for sauna.
For me it was a pleasure to take a look at this diversity of things made with love and warmth. The prices were low and I bought an embroidery and a wooden spoon for a Teflon pan.
Do you like visiting such fairs? Do you usually buy something there?

  1. Hello Nadezda girl !
This is what I miss from living in the Netherlands ... going to markets like this!
You see so many different things that are hand made or selling from older generations of collecting.
The plants must have been so pretty and I wish I could smell the Lily of the Valley .. what a pleasant scent!
The embroidering looks wonderful ... the honey? I would not be able to pass that by .. haha
Thank you for the reminder of what fun I used to have in Holland, Belgium and Germany : )

  8. Outdoor fairs of this type are my favourite thing. I love to buy food and flowers best. The cut flowers are always so much more affordable at a fair than they are in a shop. Have a wonderful weekend Nadezda!

  11. Hi Nadezda, I used to go to fairs like this but haven’t been for many years. These days I buy everything I need online :-) Looks like a good selection of things to buy, many tempting things to come home with! I used to go to Finland for shopping when I lived in Kirkenes in Norway, it was just 45 a minutes’ drive from where I lived and there were shops right on the other side of the border so not far to go for cheaper food (and alcohol and tobacco for those who needed that).

Hope you have good summer weather – here in London it’s a bit too hot at the moment but it will cool down a few degrees next week so it will be better for my plants, me and the cat :-)

    1. Helene I hope the heatwave will pass and your plants cat and you will feel better. Can imagine how much water you need for the garden in such weather. Let's raining!

  13. Oh Nadezda I´m far behind commenting on blogs, our weather is beautiful but hot and I´m mostly outside. I love visiting fairs like where you have been, but unfortunately I have not enough time in my life to visit them regularly. The embroidered cloth with the bleeding hearts is stunning, should like to have it and wooden utensils for the kitchen are always most beautiful.
Wish you a wonderful summer in the north!
