GBBD in October

The second month of Autumn, month of first frost, falling yellow leaves, cold nights, calm woods, frozen water, often rains... and some warm sunny days. Mid-October is enough warm +8..+5 C and sunny in Northern area. Here are pictures of what blooms in my garden in Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day:

Aster novi-belgii, variety 'Mont Blanc' is blooming now as each autumn with bright white flowers. Looking at them I understand that we're really in fall and summer won't come back. On the other hand Brunnera has started blooming as if it's in spring. Its small blue flowers recall me April and May, and yellow viola adds the picture. Monarda continues flowering  hasn't noticed cold nights therefore I can continue having a cup of tea with its fresh leaves :))

Rudbeckia ‘Irish Eyes’ (above) is a new one to my garden, I love this green center and big yellow petals. Look at my poor rose 'Red Brilliant' after first frost, cold rain and low temps, its wonderful buds are fading.

The 'Pink Grootendost' rose (above) is very hardy and it usually blooms till November.  What about bushes? They are pretty well,  hydrangea Grandiflora has become pink after cold night temps.

Viburnum opulus, it's called in Russia 'Kalinka' . I love Kalinka berries, they are a bit bitter but after frost are sweet. Last blooming Clematises, Marguerites have a new flush. I love a good crop of red sweet apples!

Red apples fall down in grass, and lay there with yellow maple leaves...It's autumn, October.
Is October cold or warm in your place? What is blooming in your garden?

  1. Amazing to see so much blooming in mid October Nadezda. As it gets colder this week and weekend the blooms are fading to none I think. Loved seeing your beautiful garden.

  3. I love the purple tinge to the white petals of the aster. Your rose "Red Brilliant" looks from the photos as if it has petals of 2 shades of red. Is that correct? In my garden,I have lots of wonderful dahlias but as usual the nasturtiums have taken over. Throughout late summer, before autumn comes, I try to weed out the seedlings, (they are a climbing variety and they smother everything.) But then I go away for a few days, and when I come back, there they are, all over everything. But their flowers are so wonderful I want to keep them, even though the soil is too rich for them and they put out too many leaves!

    1. I love nasturtiums as well Jenny. I always grow seedlings but if summer is cool as this summer nasturtiums grow weakly. Mine "Red Brilliant" has two-colored petals: dark red and a bit of orange, you're right.
      Happy Sunday!

  4. Gorgeous photos. :-) The weather has been lovely, the foliage is beautiful, but it is starting to get considerably colder and will be in the 40's this weekend with snow flurries up north. :-(

  5. Lovely photos, Nadezda! So many beautiful flowers are still blooming in your garden. We have still violets, few roses, and some wildflowers... those that survived the first frosty nights.
In my blogroll, there's still visible only your previous post. I need to come here more often to check if there are new posts! :)
    Have a beautiful weekend!

  9. Lovely to see your October garden Nadezda, very colourful and I especially enjoyed seeing your asters as I don't have any myself. October here in London is a mix of sunny and warm and chilly cold - although cold her is not that cold, we have temperatures around 12-18 degrees C during the day and 8-14 at night.
