I've recently been to the exhibition in the Gallery of Decorative Art of 20th
-21st centuries. There were shown vases for different occasions, such
as vintage glass vases, wood pots to ceramic ones. It was interesting
to look at and to think what vase I'd choose for cutting flowers. By the way I suppose glass and ceramic vases suit any occasion.
Another one in a shape of yellowish wine glass is elegant and I believe it's good for small flowers as daisies, primulas or lily of valley. What do you guess?
The shape of above vase is similar to an electrical insulator and an image of electrical transmission wire lines decorates its upper part. How strange!
These ceramic vases are a bit gruff for my taste, I'd never bought them. But perhaps some people would like to put flowers inside the Egyptian pharaoh head, who knows?
I liked ceramic vases imitated gems as ruby reds with lapis blues, emerald greens, or amethyst purples. This shape reminds me an antic roman vase, doesn't it?
There also were small ceramic vases like this white spherical one, they were very
nice, and I believe it would be very pretty with sweet williams or
cornflowers.
I consider this above small vase decorated with long red stems would be pretty with white flowers, and looking at the next one I was mystified: a very open vase is, flowers may fall down. What is it for, what do you assume?
And what do you think about vases? Which of vases would you like to have at home?

DeleteI love vases! It's just a pity that I am such an appalling flower arranger. I have to say that I would like to own nearly all the vases in this post - not that lovely vases would improve my flower arranging one jot. I think it's because I am always in a hurry and just stuff the stems in the vase and hope for the best. This year, I am growing plants for cutting. The borders containing them will be carefully designed, but once the flowers are cut, anything could happen. I am not optimistic about the outcome!

ReplyDeleteIn general, I prefer simple, transparent glass vases, but of these my favourite would be the ceramic one below the Egyptian pharaoh head. It has such beautiful colours.

DeleteI love unusual vases, but I must admit I've downsized to some very basic ones that were given to me by someone. These are fascinating pieces of art. If I had to choose, I really like the first one with the outdoor scene and the white spherical one. Lovely post.

DeleteSo many beautiful vases and as I love flower arranging I have many different vases. My favorites are, the first ceramic one with the woods on it and the glass vase with the red branches. May not these two ones are the best for flowers in it, but they are simply beautiful.

DeleteYou've shown some beautiful vases. Usually when I see vases I choose them for their own beauty and don't often think of what they'll look like with flowers. I have many glass vases but have only put flowers in a few of the small ones as I enjoy flowers in my garden where they last longer than when they're cut. Your post, along with the In A Vase On Monday meme have me thinking more about how flowers will look in vases. My favorite is the one in your second picture. The very open vase would need a flower frog or floral foam to hold stems in place.

DeleteWhat an interesting collection of vases. Some like the first one will look better with nothing in them. But I agree with you that the second would work very well with large flowers.

DeleteI am not one for vases of flowers in the home and think that vase style are pretty much an individual thing. A bit like plants/flowers. Each gardener has their own taste and style.

ReplyDeleteI think this open one is good for lot of small branches or big bouquet of small colorful flowers.
My own favorite vase is this http://katamaailm.blogspot.com.ee/2014/08/komps.html I did by myself almost 2 years ago. It was little failed doing as in the beginning it was leaking (that's why had to put inside another vase), but later I filled splits and now I can use this vase as it is. Most beautiful with forest bouquets.
