Let's take a walk in my garden. My pond it's not big and not deep, there are 4 nymphaeas. Finally first water lily blossomed. At the cold day it dared to open its bud, now every morning I greet the beautiful crimson wonder.
Some plants are still potted due to the cool weather. They are fuchsias, begonias and petunias, that surprise me with their persistence to strong wind, low night temps (+12 C 52 F). Fuchsia bloom in red/white and red/blue colors. White begonia blooms since last month.

Near the pond many perennials are planted. Dianthus alpinus decorate the pond shore and there is hosta, gypsophila, dicentra, cornflower, tradescantia and lady's mantle.
Let's go to the front garden. A fence protects plants from cold wind and snow in winter. Therefore I think they overwinter better than other ones in the garden. The bright blue flowers of delphinium rose over the fence that is unusual, it has grown as mad, very tall.

I planted the climbing rose 'Flammentanz' 3 years ago and this year I can enjoy its wonderful flowers. They are deep red color, without smell. Another rose 'Proud of England' survives every winter, isn't tall, blooms well.

Now we're at the cottage porch. I have some hanging pots and baskets with petunias and impatiens. They need frequent feeding and protection from wind and rain.

Here are Duantus barbatus (Sweet willams) and small flowers of Saxifraga (stone breaker) both bloom on the bed in front of the porch.

Under my cottage window Lupine grows. It's blooming and producing little pods with seeds. Aquilegia rises over lawn, this year it's in yellow color, but I remember I planted red, white and brown ones.

First gladioli started to flower, they were frozen in May so I'm glad to see their beauty now. I plant them in tubs because the soil fast gets warm.

Nadezda, I love all your plants in this post! your Russiansummer is colder than my southamerican winter, it's 25 c here now! the short and mild winters of my area make impossible to grow lupines, peonies, tulips and other plants that need many hour of chill to complete their life cycle. But we have plants in common like roses, water lilies, fuchsias, gladioli... It's fascinating to see how some plants can live in places with climates so different. Have a great sunday!
ReplyDeleteDear MDN, my plants are chosen as very hardy to our climate but others as roses just survive in winter and every spring I throw out the dead ones. Your winter is warmer than our summer :-) it's not surprising, we live close to North Pole.

Last week was colder in Germany. We got a lot of rain - it was really helpful for the region where I live. Now the temperatures arise and get between 25° and 30°C. My roses make a break now, but Helenium starts to blossom as well as Echinacea and sunflowers. I have still some blooming daylilies here.
I think I should make a post about that too. Actually I'm working about a longer post about my pond. You will see.

DeleteYour garden blooms beautifully despite the cold July temperatures. Here July has been warm and pleasant. I hate to see July end as it's my favorite month in my garden but time marches on.

DeleteOutstanding photos. I love these ones with water lily. Your garden i amazing. <3 Here is very hot. My plants do not look as good as yours. My lovely ornamental grasses looking so poorly. Have lots of aphids. Hope my plants will survive. This year is harder for plants in my area. Today is abouy 37 degrees. I am not going to complain...just I am enjoying my little garden. :)

The problem with aphids is actual here too, Aga. They can eat everything, yesterday I sprayed my nasturtium and lonicera against them. Enjoy your garden!

I was little in July at home, so I do not know exactly how it was. In the yard everything was fine, because the daughter was watering. Now it is too hot and everything is fast and it is still watering. Beautiful is your rose, and water lily. I salute and thank you for the words of encouragement before my hip surgery.

DeleteOoh, the crimson water lily is SO pretty! Its leaves are beautiful too and your different Dianthus give the final touch. Your blue flowers look gorgeous, but today the crimson/fuchsia/pink ones are my favourites. :)

This year is not good for gardeners in our area, Sara. Today it has been raining four times and the rainbow on the sky. I started to cover my beautiful roses with the bags, they suffer very much of rain. The water lily blossoms well, opening flowers every week. Wait to see your flowers!

DeleteEverything looks absolutely lovely. I love your pond, and it is obvious you take tender lovely care of everything. We had a warm July and the perennials look like they are on steroids. Right now, I have the last few day lilies blooming and the phlox, brown-eyed susans, hydrangea, and butterfly bushes are in full bloom. Enjoy August in your garden. :-)
