It's mid-January, some plants continue blooming on windowsills. Those that bloomed in December have already faded and rest. Here are new ones.
Impatiens is covered with bright red flowers, pelargonium zonale opened its purple flowers.
Roses took a rest, here is the orchid Dendrobium, it blossoms the second winter, isn't it beautiful?
Poinsettias white and red are still in bloom with their colorful leaves. All these plants decorate my windowsills in January. Day by day the light time becomes longer, the sun more often appears and soon plants will feel the approach of spring.
What about your indoor and outdoor plants now?
We are relying on our indoor plants to provide us with flowers at this time of year too.

Nadezda, so many beautiful flowers! you have the springtime inside your house! I've never had plants inside the house because since the climate is never cold enough to stop gardening I have flowers in the garden all year round. Wish you all the best in this new year!

Hi Nadezda, my indoor plants are all putting out new shoots and I have a plan to photograph them and do a post about them but haven't got round to it yet. For you winter must be cold and dark, so I imagine you are looking forward to spring. Those flowers on the window sill are very cheerful and bright.

DeleteYou have many beautiful winter blooms! There are a few schlumbergeras blooming inside for me now and some winter blooming plants are starting their show outside as well.

DeleteYes, David, I'm on 60th parallel. Not too North and cold, today it was -8 C 22 F. Therefore some of tender plants overwinter in the city, not in the garden cottage.
DeleteThe orchid reminds me almost of a daffodil. I always buy early daffodils at this time of year, they are so cheerful and the scent pleases me as much as any rose! Your plants always look as wonderful as the ones in seed catalogues, I envy your skill!

I try to plant the bulbs of early bloomed flowers into my garden as well Katharina. Sometimes it's not successful.

DeleteGorgeous blooms especially this time of year. :-) When we headed south and the heat in the house was left on 55, I only left two plants in and hope for the best. I actually packed two and brought them with me. Why, you might ask, well because a friend gave them to me and he has since passed. I didn't want to lose his gifts as well. They are doing pretty well with the sun and warmer than 55 house temps. I can't say it was fun dragging them into the hotel every night because they would have frozen in the car, but we did it. :-)

ReplyDeleteYou're very right Hetty! The plants overfilled window sills. But... when the seeding time comes some of them will be moved to cool place, then to the garden. The place for sowing seed is the best in sunny spot.

Nothing shame Sigrid. You'd better grow plants that bloom in dryness, for example cactus or succulent or asparagus. Just comfy plants to your conditions.

It is wonderful to have blooms indoors this time of the year, Nadezda. I have some phalaenopsis blooming but this is pretty much it! Outdoors - nothing until March, I guess! I am seriously thinking about creating a winter garden, with trees and bushes with good colourful witerstems and interesting bark. Got a book "Winter Garden" and this gives a plenty of ideas!
ReplyDeleteThe winter season is a good time for planning, create something new in your garden, Tistou. If you have possibility and free space for a winter garden, do it! I think it will be very useful for the storage and cultivation of delicate plants. I should look at this book too!
