It is winter outside, rain, snow, dark days and low temperatures. My wax begonia blooms on the living room windowsill despite the weather. I think it liked in my house. In September I had potted begonia and transported to the city home.
Now the wax begonia pleases me with its small red flowers that open almost every two days. I also love fresh and green foliage of begonia, flowers resemble butterflies perched on bright green leaves.
I've cut a few begonia cuttings to root new plants for next summer. Do you love this plant? Have you ever grown wax begonia in your garden or on your balcony?
En tu salón está calentita y preciosa Nadezda. Tener flores en invierno da alegría.
ReplyDeleteBuena noche.
Un abrazo.
Tienes la razon Laura, me da alegria de ver flores en estos dias de invierno.
DeleteWe plant wax begonia in a shaded section of the garden as a border plant but we have never brought them inside. Looks like we should!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes David you could bring begonia inside for winter and then in spring you save money having you own begonia en beds.
DeleteHi Nadezda,
ReplyDeleteYour photos of Begonia semperflorens are beautiful. I have never grown it in my garden, but this summer I will. I simply forget them in spring because it is so many other plants who gets the attention during that period. I will rembember them this year!
Hugs
Marit, this begonia semperflorens does not get any attention in summer. It's very simple in growth plant.
DeleteI never think to grow begonia in my garden. It is one of my less favourite plants, although yours are absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJenny, I've seen many parks (for example Mirabel Garden in Salzburg, King garden in Prague) where Begonia semperflorens have been used as the principal plant for park decoration. Its small but numerous flowers of various colours look well in ornaments.
DeleteSuch a cute little lady. Sure you are happy with this flower princess.
ReplyDeleteAll my best and happy days.
Send you some sun
Elisabeth
Yes, I am.
DeleteThanks for some sun, I had seen it yesterday :-)
It is beautiful flowers!
ReplyDeleteYes they are Anne.
DeleteHello Nadezda,
ReplyDelete"wax begonia" was a new term for me. Yours looks very familiar and Begonia semperflorens should be what we call "summer begonia". We grow them in pots (for summer). Your photos make me think of summer, they are full of light and airy happiness. :)
Your header photo is gorgeous too. Happy weekend!
I'm glad Sara you liked my header.
DeleteYou're right we call 'always blooming' or 'summer begonia' this variety of Begonia. The name of 'wax begonia' is English one. I think about spring having plans when I look at begonia :-)
Es muy bonita y me encantan, tengo varias de distintas variedades, pronto pondré una en el blog. Besos.
ReplyDeleteVoy a ver las tuyas y leer a tu blog Teresa.
DeleteBesos!
Dear Nadezda!
ReplyDeleteI also love begonias and I always plant them on the balcony and terrace.
I never took them home. I regret it now.
Nadezda, you have some spring at home.
Have a nice weekend.
Lucja
It looks like spring at home, you're right Lucja. It's the first time I have a pot of begonia in winter on the windowsill.
DeleteHello dear Nadezda,
ReplyDeleteIt must be great to have flowers from this begonia on the fence. I never had them. But it's what you wrote, the flowers look like little butterfly's. Have a wonderful weekend ahead.

Nadezda, we have so often had Begonia semperflorens in the garden. I have never heard of them being called wax begonia, but can understand why. How great to use them as a houseplant for Winter. Hope you are keeping well.
ReplyDeleteAlistair, Begonia semperflorens has many common names, as summer begonia, ever-blooming begonia , etc. I'm glad having it inside for winter, later in spring will transport it to my garden.
