'October Poem' By Robert Frost

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.

The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.

Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know;
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;

One from our trees, one far away;
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!

Robert Frost (1874 -1963):

“Poetry begins in trivial metaphors, pretty metaphors, ‘grace’ metaphors, and goes on to the profoundest thinking that we have. Poetry provides the one permissible way of saying one thing and meaning another. ..."

    1. Marit, you're right about poets. They feel words to say.

  4. This reminds me that John F. Kennedy invited Robert Frost to his inauguration. Just imagine, there was a time when presidents had a little culture. Just one presidency ago in fact.

  5. Thank you for these lovely Autumn scenes. Robert Frost is a poet I enjoy. A good choice to accompany your photos. It has put me in a mood of the season. Now it is Spring here. Showers and sunshine and everything growing at a fast pace.
    I think of you, especially at this worrying time for all. Hope you and your family are well.
    A virtual hug.

      Spring is in your place and it's a great time of the year.
      I often watch on TV about the situation in Melbourne during this epidemic, I hope that now the rigid lockdown has been abandoned.
      Be healthy and take care of yourself!

    1. Laura, aquí el otoño llega poco a poco a su fin, de las frías de 0 C -1 C, caen hojas, y el viento se hace cada vez más fuerte.
      Pronto llegará el invierno.
      ¡Buena semana!

      The last photo was taken on a cold evening, which is why the colors are so impressive.
