Each year, Earth Day — April 22 marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. On April 22,1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment in massive coast-to-coast rallies. 1990, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. Earth Day 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide. Nowadays Earth Day has reached into its current status as the largest secular observance in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people every year, and a day of action that changes human behavior. I dug out some photos on my hard disk for this Earth Day:
I am happy we have the holiday Earth Day when we remember that our beautiful planet deserves careful treatment.
Wonderful shots showing the beauty of our earth. Now, if more people would remember Earth Day every day, we'd be better equipped to keep moving into the future. Gardeners have no problem remembering that but folks who still think their food actually comes from the grocery store could use a little help. Happy Earth day to you and thanks for the lovely reminder. Tell that snow to go away though. :-)
I'm glad you liked my photos, you're right Judy we would remember about nature every day. I told snow to go away but perhaps it didn't listen to me :-(
Hi Nadezda! It seems that people do not care about nature. All kinds of waste are thrown there and air is polluted. There should be more to the media about things that affect nature, if people wake up. Happy weekend;-)
Gorgeous photos, Nadezda! I love nature and appreciate all the beautiful around me, and it makes me sad that some people do not care. Thank you so much for sharing your love photos, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
I remember hearing about earth day when I was a young kid.It turned out to be more than just a fad as it is celebrated now more than ever. Great photos by the way!
I did not know about Earth day, but I have enjoyed this day together with my tulips! Your pictures are a great selection. There is so much to enjoy. Groetjes Hetty
A gorgeous series of photos, Nadezda! I too must thank you for reminding me about this day. For some reason, it wasn't much discussed in the media here. As to your reply to Anne: when I was living abroad, I cherished the idea of Finland as a tidy country, but later I noticed that it looks tidy only because we are so few. Too many Finns throw their wastes onto the roadsides etc. The name of your blog is excellent. :) Have a great new week!
I agree, Sara, some people throw waste and other people clean the country, therefore Finland is clean enough, I love to come to your country:-) Have a nice week!
Preciosas todas Nadezda!!!
AG
