Well, just a warm enough week for my garden to bloom. The temperature during the day was +26..+ 21 C and the night temps are already +13 C. Of course plants and people love this weather.
We have a late spring so last week all the plants suddenly started making up for lost time.
Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, daisies, dicentra, delphinium, mahonia, anemones ... Almost all bulb and perennial plants started growing. The spireas, blackthorns are covered with white flowers.
The day is getting considerably longer than it was in April. The sun rises at 4 am and sets at half past nine in the evening. So there is a lot to be done in the garden in such a long day! I plan to transplant shrubs - Potentilla, Spirea, Roses, Physocarpus to a sunnier place.
Finally, I had some free time and went to the garden center. It is located not far from my house. Of course, I liked everything here and would buy many things. On the shelves a lot of flower seedlings such as viola, tagetes, carnation, dahlias were displayed. There were also many conifers, berry bushes, fruit trees. In addition, there were sacks of garden soil and fertilizers.
But I had to restrict my appetite and I bought Clematis Mountain and New Guinea Impatience. Flowers and vegetables were waiting for me in the greenhouse, and I hurried to take care of them. How are you doing in May?

Elizabeth, New Guinea impatience is growing in a nice pot and enjoy me. Although snails love it too :-( So I started using a fungicide against them.
DeleteOh, so nice to hear about the warm weather at your place, Nadezda. We got a little bit of it here for two days, but now it's back to normal chilly weather again. I googled your clematis. Did you mean Montana? Anyway it sounds lovely with a garden center near by. I have it near by too.

Marit, my clematis is Montana 'Marjorie'. I'm a little upset about it because I found that this variety does not winter in my climate. I should think how to store it during winter.

Hello Nadezda, I like the look of your garden centre very much. It's funny, we had a late Spring too but obviously yours is much later. I love blackthorn, which grows wild here. I took some photos in a field entirely hedged with blackthorn and what a fabulous sight it was. Please tell me, are the daffodils at the top called "Professor Einstein"? I noticed them and brought some bulbs of them last year. They're very striking blooms and I love the look of them, but I was just a little disappointed that, although the bulbs were huge, the plants themselves were only normal size!
ReplyDeleteBlackthorn has been growing in my garden for years, Jenny. I used to make jam from its berries. I love its bloom.
DeleteThese are "Professor Einstein" daffodils, you are right. I bought a lot of bulbs 5 years ago and now only a few of them continue to bloom. I think the size of the flowers depends on how the bulb overwintered. Sometimes the bulb begins to divide and the flowers become smaller.

May is wonderful. The birch leaves are about 1 - 1,5 cm long now and the world looks lovely fresh green.

ReplyDeleteImpatiens is one of the best plants for summer, I think, as it likes sun and shadow as well.
Here it is one of the coldest months of may, so I envy you a bit (just a bit) that you have such warm days - and nights. Our day temperature is just about +12.

Hello Nadezda ! We ad a very quick Spring and now in temps of 30 ! no rain either so it is very dry and now very hot .. I really dislike how the season shifts so quickly .. I was just getting used to Spring for heaven sake ! I understand how you feel when at a garden center .. I can go overboard, so I really have to be stern with myself .. but it is so fun to buy new plants right ? LOL

Querida Nadezda aquí el mes de Mayo fue bastante frío, estos días por primera vez llegamos a los diez grados nocturnos, esto hizo que todo este muy retrasado, incluso con menos flores que en Abril. Espero que esta semana comience a crecer todo y abran ya algunas flores. Besos.
