Phlox

Before I had my own garden, I loved looking at phloxes and their scent. Phloxes were the first flowers to appear in my garden. I asked a neighbor for one stem of phlox and divided it into several cuttings. I planted them in pots and covered them with a cut plastic bottle. To my joy, by the end of the summer all the cuttings gave roots and I transplanted them into the garden. It's amazing how they survived the winter. They must have been warm under the snow.

When I decided how to design the garden around the cottage, I carefully transplanted the phloxes into the front garden. The next summer, my first flower bed was decorated with phlox. These purple phloxes have been blooming in my garden for over 20 years.

Every year I bought rooted cuttings of different varieties in the Garden Centers and the number of phlox increased. Some of them remained in the garden, while others disappeared. Now red, purple and white phlox grow in the garden. My dream is to buy blue phlox. But all they require maintenance and pruning and this thought stops me from buying new phloxes.

I love to dip my face in their inflorescence and inhale the aroma. Do you grow phlox? Do you like their scent?

  1. Phlox is one of my favorites in the garden too. You have so many beautiful varieties of them.
I have never tried to take cuttings of them, but I will try it now. I grow many phlox here, and I really like the ones that have purple or bluish colors. I love the scent too. Hugs.

  5. Dear Nadezda!
Phloxes are one of my favorite flowers. They may not be spectacularly beautiful, but I have great sentiment for them... and I like their scent. In our country, many, many years ago, these charming flowers decorated rural grandmothers' gardens. Fortunately, they are not difficult to grow, which is why I have three varieties of phloxes in a perennial border.
Hugs and greetings - Anita :-))

    1. Anita, it's nice to know that you love them as much as I do. I still have memories of country gardens where phlox always grew. Hugs.

  6. Hello Nadezda, phloxes are wonderful traditional perennials and I (like many) find them nostalgic because my mother had them when I was a child. In those times I saw mainly pink flowers and nowadays I like especially those with darker blooms. Your white ones look very delicate and elegant.
In front of our home, coneflowers, soapweeds and phloxes are blooming now and they all have a lovely scent.
    Happy day to you!

    1. Here some gardeners call phlox 'grandmother's flower'. That's why I like them :) I think that flowering phlox, coneflower and soapworts complement each other with colors and aroma, Sara. Hugs.

    2. Yes, I noticed the message about the needed approval after having written my second comment. 😀 And yes, there have been a lot of spam comments recently... and sometimes real comments go to the spam folder.
      Good night!

    3. I'm sorry Sara that there were problems with this approval, but it had to be put up due to spam, especially from sellers.

  9. How beautiful!
Here in Brazil this phlox has another name, and another shape,
do not produce several ball-shaped flowers, it is one in
each stem. I liked yours better.
Thank you for visiting in August.
I make one post a month.
    janicce.
