The Lily. That was the name of the new exposition held in Saint Petersburg Botanic Gardens last week. As I have some Trumpet Hybrids lilies in my garden, I wanted to visit this show and to learn more about Lilium.
The Botanic Gardens is not far from my place and at 11 am I was there. The first visitors and I began to get acquainted with lilies, to sniff and take photos of these beautiful cut flowers. All lilies were put in vases and the owners watched them carefully and exchanged the faded by the blooming ones.
Here are the photos of some Asiatic, Martagon, Trumpet and Candidum Hybrids that I liked the most. I was interested in the shapes, combination of colors, some unusual shades. Some of the flowers amazed me by their combination of colors as white and light brown, deep red with white edges, pale pink with yellow center.
Others looked very tenderly
of white, pink, purple, lime. The deep red or better to say black one was a
surprise for me.
The very elegant and
graceful Martagon lilies were shown in another hall. I have no them in my garden and
I thought to plant some near the patio.
There was a stand with
books and handicraft souvenirs made by the
exhibitors. I liked these decoupage pots and cups! I've also seen the
contoured drawing on a dense paper for any amateur of lily could
paint them with watercolor. Great!

I bet it was stunning in 'real life' such a wide range of colours and no doubt beautiful perfume. No men in the photos - does it only appeal to women I wonder
ReplyDeleteOf course no, ha ha! It was weekly morning and I think that women are mostly at home and may go to exhibition. That time actually there were two men but they have been a bit of time.

Amazing! The lilies are so beautiful, so gorgeous! So many variety with the beautiful colors and pattern. I really love lilies, but I have never grown it on my garden. I guess the weather is too hot. But I often see lilies are grown here on the highland. Thank you for sharing.

DeleteAmazing varieties, I wish I had some of them, especially the red-and-white ones. I have a lot of day lilies in yellows and oranges in my garden, but no other lilies.

DeleteYour own lilies are also very beautiful Nadezda. I like visiting flower expositions, and this lily exposition must have been interesting and colourful, there are so many different types. I always have some lilies in my garden, but there are lilybeetles too and they are a real nuisance.

DeleteThe lilies were beautifully displayed in this exhibition and your photos so clear. I loved them! Especially the dark pink with white edges. We always wish to buy some new plants when we see them displayed like this, but sometimes there is not enough room in the garden!

Lilies are the most elegant and beautiful flowers. I didn’t know so many varieties exist. How did you manage not to go out right away and buy some bulbs for next year?

ReplyDeleteWoowwww...! Amazing exhibition, Nadezda. Your lilies are so beautiful and fresh! I had grown some lily bulbs and just rot, :). Heavy rain suddenly came. Then I tried to grow the scales, the same thing happened, but a scale remains still in the garden, it has formed small bulblets, I hope it will still alive and give me success, :)
