Lilies in My Garden

Everyone loves lilies! And today I want to show you the lilies in my garden. There aren’t that many of them, but I try to plant them so that they catch your eye as soon as you walk into the garden. Grown from bulbs, lilies are perennials that require minimal care when planted correctly.

 

Lilies belong to the genus Lilium and grow from plump, scaly bulbs. They come in an endless variety of colors, shapes, heights, and enchanting scents, including pink, gold, red, orange, and white. Lilies burst in with kaboom blossoms at an interlude when most flowers are in a holding pattern.

Lilies love full sun, and six hours or more is a must. They like to have their “head in the sun and their feet in the shade.” With their fragrance, sturdy stems, and large petals, lilies are perfect for the garden. 

I usually don't cut my lilies, I feel sorry to deprive them of the land where they grow and bloom for several years. 

If your lily lice are suffering from a lily beetle infestation, try sprinkling some dolomite (lime) powder on the unopened lily buds and the beetle will go away.

Red Roses

 Summer, red roses are blooming. Some gardeners consider red roses to be a bit of a hackneyed symbol of love. But if you look at the plant, how it diligently opens its buds, how it withstands wind and rain, you can say that the red rose is a very resilient plant. 

 

 

It is believed that one red rose is a romantic symbol of love. This is a more discreet way to express your love for someone. Roses with red buds can be found among hybrid tea roses to floribunda, climbing and bush roses - these best varieties are distinguished by bright red flowers, captivating aroma and versatility. For example, the Flamentanz rose (above) winters well, blooms in June - July.

 

 

My other red roses are quite unpretentious, they can withstand winter frosts and snowdrifts. The bushes are low, completely covered with snow in winter and tolerate frosts very well. In spring, you have to cut off dried branches, but new shoots quickly grow in their place.

 

The last photos show a red-carrot rose. After the winter it was very weak, in June it had 4 branches and blossomed. The flowers are an unusual color, they smell wonderful.
