Recollecting Summer in a Wintry Day

'Recollecting summer' I mean my new finished embroidery.
During cold snowy months December and January I had been doing my favorite work in winter, it's the cross stitching. This is my new picture 'Portofino' (designer John Clayden). When I had seen this pattern I loved the sunny landscape, colorful houses, shining sea. It reminds me the Majorca island where I spent my vacations last summer.
Here it is:

January was cold and snowy.
Now in February there is snowing almost every day. The garden and woods near my summer cottage are white and calm. I took some photos though my camera battery said it was dissatisfied with frosty weather.

Late lies the wintry sun a-bed,
A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
Blinks but an hour or two; and then,
A blood-red orange, sets again.

Black are my steps on silver sod;
Thick blows my frosty breath abroad;
And tree and house, and hill and lake,
Are frosted like a wedding cake.

I think the poem 'Winter-Time' by Robert Louis Stevenson goes well to these photos, doesn't it?

The titmice and magpies are often visiting  my garden, they love my feeders.

What do you prefer doing in cold snowy or rainy day when is dark and frosty outside?

    1. Olimpia, I'm not very patient! I do my stitching 2-3 hours a day, because of my eyes get tired. You are knitting, I'd never done, I think it's difficult.
      Thank you!

  4. Oh Nadezda, your snowy photos are beautiful! It's difficult to think of cold and frosty weather while we are having so much heat. Tonight, I opened my doors and the smell of smoke is in the air from bush fires burning in the country.
    I always like your choice of poems.
    It's nice to see your lovely embroidery. Keep cosy and warm.

  5. Good morning Nadezda,
    Your finished embroidery is very special; it must have taken you a long time to complete! I wish I had such patience and talent! Your pictures go well with the poem. It's nice how bright and clean everything looks when covered with snow! When it's snowy or rainy outside, I like to work on stained glass projects, watch movies, or read books about gardening.

      You're right the snow makes clean and calm all around. Glad you liked my new stitching picture, thank you!

  7. Dear Nadezda,
    What a great cross stitch that is. I like the colours. Your snow photographs are lovely. We have no snow at all here and the winter has been very mild. We keep wondering if it will change all of a sudden. For me, on cold, dark winters I like to read books or write and occasionally I do cross stitch too!
    Bye for now,
    Kirk

  9. Beautiful cross stitch of Portofino, I know Portofino in Italy. Your snowy photos are just wonderful, I should have liked to have some snow, but we only have rain and wind, the garden is wet and muddy. I enjoy reading a lot of books for which I had no time to read in summer.

    1. I've never been to but seen the movie about Portofino and realized my stitching looks like the real town. You're right we have no time for reading in summer and now is the best time for it. Thank you, Janneke!

  12. Hi Nadezda
    I used to cross stitch as well! I made numerous scenes, like yours, and some Christmas stockings. Cross stitching is very relaxing and produces beautiful results. Your photos of the snow are lovely too. Even as we put up with frigid temperatures, we must remember to record the beauty of every season.

      Why not to post the photos of your works? I'd love to see them!

  13. Your cross stitch picture is very pretty and will look good in any décor. You do get a lot of snow in your garden and it looks magical. Here today we have had mostly ice but more snow is coming tonight. It won’t stay long though as it will be back to at least 15 C by Sunday.

  14. Hello Nadezda, I hope you are well. Do you know I have always wanted to go to Portofino. We should have visited there on a cruise we took a few years ago but for some reason the ship couldn't dock there so we went to Tunisia instead! I was so disappointed. Love your cross stitch. Your snowy photos are stunning and I secretly wish that we could have a little here rather than this awful weather we are experiencing - high winds and floods. When the weather is bad outside there is nothing more comforting than putting my feet up with a good book and a mug of steaming tea in my hand, watching the weather from inside. Patricia x

    1. Yes. the weather is awful in England this February, Patricia. I've been watching on TV the floods in many places and people who could not stay in their homes, terrible! Glad you liked my stitching picture, I had spent two months doing it.
      Thank you!

  17. So much snow! Your cross stitch is beautiful. I usually read or try to get caught up on housework on the days I can't go outside. I'd much rather be gardening than doing housework, but it has to be done!

  19. The snow around your hoe and garden is so beautiful. I love to look at it when it covers everything all white and sparkling. This winter I have had enough of it around my house. Your Cross stitch is so beautiful. I love to embroider and crochet but Cross stitch and knitting I just could never get it straight for some reason. LOL! I hope we have a warm spring after this winter but I am ready to sow some seeds indoors to get the gardener going. LOL! Have a wonderful weekend.

    And your embroidery is lovely too, I used to do a lot of embroidery in the past but not so much these day, whenever I am not in the garden I am in front of the computer, difficult to do embroidery when typing, although I used to do it when watching TV when I was younger – before I used to need two different types of glasses for TV and embroidery :-)

  23. Your cross stitch is lovely, bright and sunny! It must be nice to imagine yourself there when it's snowing outside. I love embroidery, including cross stitch, but I hardly ever do it these days. I have too many other hobbies, mainly crochet, that I work on in the evenings. I also spend too much time on the internet :)
