My Flower Lady

My Flower Lady  (The Gladiolus)

I liked her
To the sword-shaped leaves
Of the gladiators favorite flower
The six feet tall Gladiolus
But know this
The long and narrow
Angles of her beauty
Are sharper than any sword
And have pierced
My sight
Causing incurable infatuation
With her beauty
She is the world’s
Sharpest flower
And when she blooms
Deeply her beauty slices into my soul

By Handsum-Hart

These beautiful gladiolus bloom in my garden in August, the last summer month.

  2. Oh my gosh, these flowers must be the stars of your garden right now, so bright, so many colours, so tall - just beautiful! You have found the perfect poem to accent their beauty (I might borrow it from you in the future).

  3. Your glads have given me the inspiration to try them again! I had them long ago and always forget to buy new bulbs, but your photos remind me how lovely they are, especially at this time of year, when lots of stuff is fading away.

    1. Astrid, every September I collect their bulbs, I think: Why? how to store them during the long winter? But! In spring I open the box and see young sprouts on the bulbs, I'm glad! So it's not very complicate to grow and store glads. Thank you!

  5. Nadezda your Gladiola are just gorgeous. I love the blooms on them but I only have one in my garden. They have to be staked here but I am considering some of the dwarf ones for the garden someday. I really like your pink ones.

    1. Lona, thank you! I have no dwarf gladioli. This is a great idea, I can grow dwarf ones in the pots.

  7. What pretty gladioli! I love the bright reddish orange one - I don't know if I've seen one in that color before! Glads are so pretty. I only wish they didn't have to be staked so much. I have lots of yellow glads, and I bought another bag of them to go in my garden, only to have them be a bright pink! I had to move them as they didn't really go where they had been planted, but they look really pretty in their new spot.

    1. Indie, gardeners said that it's necessary to change the place where glads grow each year, then they go well. I haven't many glads, because is difficult to store them in winter. I love the pink ones too. Thank you!

  14. They're gorgeous. Are you familiar with Australia's own Dame Edna Everage, the champion of the Gladioli? Blogpost here: http://ambradambra.wordpress.com/2012/11/14/i-gladiolus/
