The weather has been enough warm this week, although the night temps were 0 C. I decided to go for a walk in the downtown, to take autumn pictures of my favorite places in the gardens.
The Summer Garden is the oldest one in Saint Petersburg, designed in
the regular style. I love to spend time here in all seasons. It is situated on
the bank of the river Neva and is famous for its cast iron grille
and marble sculptures.
I always liked to watch the garden sculptures, like this
‘Flora’.
The second one is Michael
Garden. It was created as a landscaped park.The trees grown in
the downtown are the English oak, Norway maple, Green ash, Silver birch, Siberian larch, Blue spruce, Crack willow, Limes and Poplars.
The garden takes its
name from the Michael Palace, better known to visitors as the Russian Art Museum.
There is a small pavilion in a corner of the Garden, on the bank of the Moika
River. I saw an artist here, it’s really lovely place!
Through the big old trees
the Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood is seen. I enjoyed watching its
mosaic walls and domes.
One entrance to the
Michael Garden is located opposite this Church. Forged grille separates the Church
of the Savior on the Spilled Blood from the
Michael Garden. It’s very interesting iron grill; I think there are the iron
tulips on it. Am I right?

DeleteSt. Petersburg has awesome places and buildings to visit. I've been there twice in 1980's and I'm sure that the city is now totally different and beautifully renovated, isn't it? I've been to Russian art museum and there are great paintings. Peterhof was a wonderful place to see.

DeleteI am so excited to find this blog. I live in Chicago but my son spent six months at St. Petersburg University and lived with a Russian family who had a flat near the Lenin Metro station. I visited him for a week in November and it was an incredible experience. I loved the canals, the Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood, and the Peter and Paul Fortress. We visited the Hermitage - the palace itself was beautiful, but we saw only a tiny fraction of the art on display. There was also a book store on Nevsky Prospekt with a cafe on the second floor that was wonderful. A beautiful city, and there's so much I didn't get to see! I would love to go back, but until then I can look at your blog.

DeleteNadezda, what a beautiful place! I don't know how you did it but your pictures seem larger than usual, it really does the architecture justice in this size. I especially like your photo of the mosaic domed building with the dark-trunked trees criss-crossing in front. I also loved the little girl who is watching the artist paint. Everything is made even more colourful with the carpet of gold leaves covering the ground. Have a great weekend :)

ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing tour .. it makes me regret not seeing more places such as this when we lived in Europe .. Russian architecture is stunning with the bold colours and design .. the trees and the leaves soften the view with such natural touches .. the statues are beautiful.
