GBBD in December

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, mid-December. Nothing blooms in my garden that is in the rain and sometimes under the snow. At home, in the city it's really blooming day, the home plants are in their best.
Small Gloxinia started to bloom 8 buds. Gloxinia (correct name Sinningia) is a tuberous plant with soft velvety leaves and bell-shaped flowers of various colors. It's one of the most showy flowering potted plants.

This young begonia has grown in the garden without any flower and now inside it blossoms prettily. Lovely bright red flower in Christmas time.

And finally my beauties, miniature roses Ice Angel. I have two of them and the first one is in bloom. 3 buds appeared a week ago, now one bud is opening. This time is the darkest in the year, I bought special phito-lamp for the plants because roses need more light.

I hope all buds will have opened until Christmas.  New poinsettia decorates my desk, the last year ones are very slowly to bloom.

What is blooming in your house, in your garden now?

  5. Every photo is gorgeous. I'm green with envy. :-) I was outside walking today, picking up sticks, and cutting some greens for decorations, and I can assure you there is nothing out there to report on. Inside I have a large Poinsettia that is beautiful and two Cyclamen that have lovely bright red blooms. :-)

    1. Love Cyclamen as well, Judy. Have no idea why but they don't grow well inside and fade fast.
      Happy GBBD!

  6. Your pot plants are as beautiful as your garden. But it's interesting, I didn't know it was possible to grow roses indoors. I never heard of any reason why that would be but it is just something I have never thought of. I have some miniature roses which I planted in the garden and they have done pretty well. Of course here our winters are unlikely to kill roses - I assume that in Russia the weather is too severe to leave them outside?

    1. Jenny, I live in 'too severe' climate zone 5a (-28 C..-26 C) and when I choose roses for my garden I always look at what zone a rose is. All my roses are hardy and mostly don't suffer frost. This indoor rose didn't grow well in summer and I decided to grow it in warm condition in winter at my home.

  8. Love that Gloxinia, you don't see them here so much nowadays, I remember when I was a child my mother always had Gloxinia's in spring. Your Ice Angel rose is wonderful too, do you put her in the garden in spring?
    With kind regards,

    1. I've had this rose in the garden in summer but it didn't bloom and grew a little. Maybe summer was cool or it's typical inside rose, don't know, Janneke. Next May when ground is warm enough I'll put these roses, hope they're well.

  9. Your Gloxinia and roses are beautiful Nadezda. We have been having an unusually mild fall/winter with temperatures in the 60's. The same thing happened last year then we got slammed with snow...so we'll see. Happy GBBD!

  12. That's a really pretty rose. I do wish they would stop messing around with the names of plants it all becomes very confusing.

    1. I agree, Sue. Very often the name or rose color is different of a label.

  13. It amazes me that you can grow such beautiful flowers indoors, especially roses! We do have pots of Poinsettia inside at Christmas and put them outside after, but of course it is summer here now. Beautiful colours of Gloxinia and begonia.
Thank you for sharing these lovely photos.

  14. Hi Nadezda, do you have snow yet at your dacha or is it unusually mild with you too? Loved your gloxinia, I have had them before a few times but they used to get so straggly, possibly because there was not enough light in the window in my living room where I lived before. Maybe I should try again, they are beautiful blooms! Loved your Ice Angel too, I have two miniature roses too indoors, but I plan to put them in the garden when they are finished with this flush of flowers – they have so different watering regime than all my orchids so it’s difficult to keep remembering to water them.
    Have a great day!

    1. We do have a little snow at the dacha now (-1..-3 C), but yesterday was raining very much, so yes, I can say we have very mild December. And it pleases me especially when I think about my plants :0)
I understand you well if different watering regime plants stand in one place. I have pelargoniums, orchids and impatience all together.
