Autumn. Here in the North, leaves turn yellow on trees and bushes. Fruit hang on apple trees, on black chokeberry, rowan and sea buck-thorn trees. Large flocks of blackbirds, starlings, tits and sparrows eat these fruit and take vitamins for the long and cold winter.
The days are cloudy and it often rains.
The last flowers are still pleasing to the eye, they use the sun's heat during the day but freeze at night. Flowers come alive with the first rays of the sun. Frequent rains bend down the heads of flowers, the grass wilts and puddles on paths are for a long time.
Strong northern winds pluck the golden leaves from maples and apples from trees. New England asters (Aster novae-angliae) have bloomed, their small but numerous flowers look beautifully in the light of the low autumn sun.
Another month will pass, and autumn will completely change the landscape, there will be gray-brown shades around. In the meantime, I enjoy September days in the garden, with a variety of leaf and apple colors and last flowering plants.

ReplyDeleteLovely photos of autumn. Here we had a very beautiful and dry September, but now the rain has come. I'm very glad for it, because it was very dry everywhere. Your asters are so pretty. I think mine gets too little sun, because they don't flower yet. Your apples looks great too!
There are a lot of apples, Marit, have to use them - to cook, dry, freeze. I think the New England asters will bloom later, the weather is good for them.
DeleteYour pictures could have been taken right here in Ontario, Nadezda. As you say fall has arrived and we have to prepare for the winter ahead. Thank goodness we are here to do it. ReplyDeleteoh it looks like a very good apple harvest. So I had too. Your New England Aster is a lovely one and seems to produces thousands of little white stars. You are asking for the weather. So, since yesterday it was warm and nice but during this night the first serious cold surge was coming, bringing rain and lower temperatures. But this is like autumn is here in the south of Austria.

ReplyDeleteHave you had frost already? In Eastern Finland, we have had a mild autumn, but in other parts of the country there have already been lower temperatures.

The weather is warm here till the end of September, Sara. It rarely rains and the days are mostly sunny. I'm glad you have mild season, we should enjoy these days before winter.

Hi Nadezda, here the temperature starts to gradually start to fall. During the week there were some days with the sky overcast and some rain fell, but very slightly.

End of September and the beginning of October have been incredibly warm this year! Almost like summer. We haven't had any frost so far, so dahlias and autumn asters are in full bloom. It is very beautiful at the moment!

Hello Nadezda ! what pretty pictures you have taken .. the leaves are changing rapidly here as well .. I don't know if I will be out to capture them which is a pity, every year I want to and then it is too late.

Mass gatherings of Canadian geese are on the move .. I am wondering if it means a very hard winter coming .. kind of scary with all that is going on. I hope you continue to enjoy good weather and yur gardens !
I've also seen flocks of geese flying south, Joy. Last Sunday there were 6 of them at the same time, wow. I don’t think the winter will be hard, or rather, I don’t want to think so :-) But there are no berries on the mountain ash (rowan) - winter should be mild here.
