On the Lake

These are recollections of summer in November when the rain and wind is outside.
My trip to the lake Vesijärvi (Finland) was in June. It wasn't hot, days were rainy and windy and I thought that sailing by a steamer should be postponed. But having seen such a wonderful steamboat with a wheel at the stern, I boldly climbed the gangway. Two sailors (they were the owners) warmly greeted passengers. I asked if waves were strong on the lake and a sailor assured me that the wind was not strong and the waves were not big.

The steamer frisky sailed from the pier and it was rocking a bit. But the lake shores were so beautiful, there were small cottages, sandy beaches, the city of Lahti ... And I forgot about my fears and enjoyed the views from the open deck.

Of course the weather prepared a surprise: a big black cloud had flown and rain started. I had to go down to the covered deck. A party was held there and people in a bar didn't pay attention to weather and nature. Only when heavy rain had finished the other photographers joined me.

We sailed ahead, the sun appeared, suddenly large and bright rainbow has hung over a lake and an island and passengers started taking pictures. So did I. It's said that if you're able to see both ends of rainbow then your dream come true. Do you believe it? Have you tried to photograph a rainbow?

  1. Thank you, Nadezda, for the interesting tour! (I haven't ever done this trip.)
It's lovely to remember summer, when outside the wet snow keeps falling.
Your photos are beautiful and rainbows are definitely something I will photograph...
if I just have a camera with me!
Have a lovely new week! Happy knitting! :)

  2. Hello Nadezda.
    Great is your relationship.
Despite the inclement weather pictures came out perfect.
I must tell you that I really like all cruises; lakes, canals, seas. I really like water.
    Greetings from Poland.

  5. Hello Nadezda girl !
What a wonderful trip you took on this paddle boat ... a lot of your pictures could have been taken here in Ontario in cottage country .. so pretty ! .. I hadn't heard that saying about seeing both ends of the rainbow that was so nice.
Maybe there is a reason both ends can't be photographed (making it even more mysterious!)
Lovely post .. thank you for your comments on Nov 11 and I totally agree with you !

  7. That looks a very interesting boat with paddles at the back. I'm glad you didn't miss the trip. The lake is beautiful with many interesting buildings along the shore. I like the A frame house. I have only taken one photo of a rainbow as far as I can remember. It was a long time ago!
It's good to be back blogging gain and being now able to comment on blogs. Hope you are well and enjoying each day.

  12. What a lovely trip! I can just imagine it from your photos. And how lucky to see both ends of a rainbow. Here in England we think that if you find the end of a rainbow you will discover a pot of gold there. when I was a kid I used to pester my parents to drive towards rainbows and I couldn't understand why they didn't want the pot of gold! :)

I will get the recipe for the carrot cake and post it either on my next post or here on your blog! Yes, it really did taste very nice.

  13. I would have loved to be on that steamer with you – the landscape looks wonderful. I have tried to photograph rainbows and was not often successful. I did take a pretty rainbow as we were leaving Fort de France in Martinique but I am not sure if I have the photo anymore. My desktop computer broke last September and they were supposed to have backed-up all my pictures – but so far I can’t find them – I am very upset for sure.

I'm sorry your broken computer, for this reason I think we have to have additional hard disc. Perhaps you will be able to take photo the next summer rainbow.

  14. I just posted the recipe for the cake on my blog. I didn't mean to sound boastful when I said it tasted nice, I attribute that to the recipe, not my cooking of this simple recipe! :)
