Colorful June

June in my garden. Simple, unassuming flowers and plants brighten up the corners. I want to show you what the garden looks like in mid-June. The rhododendrons continue to bloom because the end of May was cool, and now they're in full bloom.

These are the rhododendrons 'Helsinki University' and 'Haaga' (photo above), and the rhododendron 'Grandiflora' (photo below).

The clematis are blooming modestly; snails won't leave them alone.

The white lilac is showing off its fragrant beauty; this is the second year since it was planted. The other white lilac died last winter.

I bought petunia seedlings and planted them in hanging baskets.I have problems growing petunia seedlings from seeds; I guess I just don't have the patience.

There are two azaleas in my garden: "Mandarin Light" and "Northern Lights." They started blooming late and are suffering from heavy rains. The "Northern Lights" azalea is blooming modestly, with only a few flowers; I guess the winter was tough on it.

Peonies begin blooming in June. As soon as the rhododendrons finish blooming, large peony buds appear. Their fragrance permeates the entire garden, especially in the evening. I have several varieties of peonies, but I can't remember their names.

Daisies and violets have taken over a low flowerbed; they're growing and blooming on their own, which I'm very pleased with.

The ever-blooming begonia and dahlias were grown in the city and have successfully moved into the garden and are thriving.

I like to spend time with the plants. And when I'm tired, I enjoy admiring the garden while sitting in a chair on the veranda.
Wishing everyone a wonderful June.

  1. Liebe Nadezda,

    1. Anke, you're right about the difference in bloom times. We had a cold May and a frosty winter, so the plants need time to bloom. Only the late-blooming rhododendron varieties are blooming now, and the peonies haven't even bloomed yet. So far, only the white ones, but later there will be red and pink ones.
      Wishing you good weather.

  2. Boa tarde minha querida amiga Nadezda.

  3. Your garden looks quite wonderful, Nadezda, the result of a great deal of planning and hard work. Of that I have no doubt. June is perhaps the best month of all when so many plants are blooming and the heat of summer is not yet oppressive. I hope that you are not suffering from the terrible heat wave that is gripping Europe and causing so many deaths. We truly have wrecked our climate. Best wishes - David

    1. David, thank you for your kind words and concern. The heat hasn't reached us yet, it's still fairly cool, no higher than 22°C (72°F). If it gets too hot, I'll have to water the plants (and myself) frequently.

  6. In English:

I really enjoyed your June garden post with all those beautiful photos. Your garden looks so full and peaceful, with so many different flowers taking their turn.

At the moment I feel a little trapped inside the house because of the heat here in Europe. The roses are blooming more abundantly than I have ever seen before, and the lavender is doing very well too. But I’m worried about my hydrangeas. I’m not sure they will survive this heat. A few watering cans don’t seem enough when the heat is so intense.

So I enjoyed wandering through your garden photos all the more. It felt like a quiet little escape.

    1. I loved your words, "quiet retreat," Aritha. Yes, that's exactly it. It's not hot here, not higher than 22°C (72°F), but I water the plants often, especially the vegetables. Hydrangeas don't really like the heat, but if they're mature, I think they'll bloom.

    1. The rhododendrons are already finishing blooming, Angelika; it was a period of rainy and warm weather. Now I'll water them with fertilizer because they're starting to grow.

I love that the cool May gave your rhododendrons a second act, and now they're just showing off in June. 'Helsinki University,' 'Haaga,' and 'Grandiflora' — what a gorgeous trio! Simple flowers, big personality. Your garden sounds like the coziest corner of the world right now. 💜🌿
