Time To Unwind

Summer. This long-awaited season has come. Nice flowers, new leaves, branches, weeds. Everything grows, blooms, matures.

The vegetables grow, the berries become juicy. So long I've waited for this wonderful time of the year. More sun, heat, resinous smell of pine trees, blue sky and the bird singing. Now the time comes to sit and unwind a bit. There is one cozy spot under two young maples with dense foliage that protects from rain and provides shade on a hot day.

I often put the small white table and chair and sit there in the shade of maple trees. Sometimes I take a bowl and gather some berries from the red currant bush, or a cup of tea with mint and lemon balm.

From my chair I can see another part of the garden with small gazebo. The path leads along two pergolas to the patio. Actinides, sweet pea and honeysuckle perfoliate grow on pergolas, sweet fragrance!

Here is more shade and in hot days I prefer to unwind in this gazebo. Relaxing here I can  take my 'Dell' or a book or knitting, which was lying since winter or just to lie back in a deck chair, take a nap under the leaves of Virginia creeper entwined around a wall.

When September comes I'll have to do a lot of work preparing my garden for winter.
Where do you unwind in your garden? Do you have your favourite spot there?

  1. What lovely places to sit and relax! I especially like your spot under the gazebo--looks like the perfect place to spend a summer afternoon. I love your stone path with zigzaggy edging! It makes me want to follow it and peek to see what's around the corner.

    1. Rose, so the idea of this path was --- want to see what is around the corner? At first the path was from bricks and then was renovated to stone path, I think it became nicer.
      Thank you!

  6. Your garden is beautiful, and what a wonderful place to relax. I like sitting in the shade of the bamboo so I can look around and see how it all looks. The only problem I have is sitting still. I usually end up spotting a weed, or something else that needs attention.

    1. Tracey, the same is with me. But I have one secret: I take off my glasses and don't see the weeds.

  7. Your garden looks wonderful. Is this your dacha? I usually like to sit in a corner of the garden where we have a table and chairs. But I think I like strolling through the garden best.

  9. Beautiful views of your garden with the paths, pergolas and gazebo. I think August is the best month to relax in the garden on warm days, dreaming about flowers and wondering what to cook of the vegetables grown in the garden. You have some fine spots to unwind.

  15. Hi Nadezda
Your backyard is lovely and your chair under the maples looks like a great spot to relax. We gardeners have to remember to step back, sit down and enjoy all of our hard work. You certainly have a lovely area to do that in. My husband and I take our glasses of wine out to the deck after dinner and sit and chat (until the mosquitos start to bit at dusk!). Gardening is fun but the enjoyment of the garden should not be taken for granted.

    1. You're right, Astrid! The enjoyment of the garden had never been given for 'nice eyes' as we say. It's a hard work and in September this work waits for me. Let unwind now with the glass of wine!
      Thank you!

  16. You have a little paradise here. Enjoy the leisure before the next big lot of work starts. I am not working at the moment, but when I go round the garden I see all the jobs I will soon have to do.

For now I take a book out under the shade of the walnut tree and put my feet up.

    Happy summer, Nadezda.

  17. How nice to see all these long shots from your garden, Nadezda, it gives me a better impression of the layout of your garden and it looks wonderful with these seating areas to sit and rest :-) It has been very hot in Britain too, and although we have a bit cooler weather right now it is still nice and summer is still around. Take care, Helene.

  26. Your garden looks wonderful! If I had a garden like this I certainly would go out and stay in it. But here, we have mostly pine trees and hard rock clay which is hard to dig for flowers, plus it is very humid – weeds grow well! I wrote a post last year called “My Garden, somewhat” where I show pictures of mostly trees. In case you would like to look at all the trees around our house here is the link: http://avagabonde.blogspot.com/2012/08/my-garden-sort-of.html.
